I am wondering because I noticed that for f(x)=x^2, the input was 1-D and the output was 1-D. For f(x,y)=x^2+y^2, the input was 2-D and the output was 1-D again. So, are all outputs of multivariable functions the "height" of the graph? What would be examples of multidimensional outputs ... WebSep 19, 2012 · 1 Answer Sorted by: 2 Your equation (x-a).^2+ (y-b).^2<=r^2 means that the cylinder's center is at [a, b]. Moving it along the x -axis by an amount da means increasing a to a+da, so that the new center moves to [a+da, b]. Just as a word of advice -- there is also the Matlab command [x,y,z] = cylinder.
